The IUF's New Private Equity Buyout Watch

Submitted by intexile on 木曜, 03/22/2007 - 2:08pm.

Likened by some to a plague of locusts, private equity funds have emerged as major owners of companies in the IUF and other manufacturing and service sectors. The top global buyout funds now control more overseas assets, and employ more workers, than the traditionally ranked leading TNCs. Trillions of dollars in recent years have gone into acquiring, restructuring and disposing of the companies, often with a catastrophic impact on employment and working conditions. With 2007 now being talked about as the year of the hundred billion dollar "deal", leveraged buyouts cast a long shadow over our sectors and the global economy as a whole.

Unions internationally are now responding and fighting back. The IUF has opened a new web site - Private Equity Buyout Watch - to strengthen our collective response. On the site, you'll find news of private equity developments and acquisitions in the IUF sectors, reports on union campaigns, organizing and bargaining strategies in response to leveraged buyouts, and updates on key developments in the campaign to contain and roll back private equity through political and regulatory tools.

The purpose of LaborTech is to bring together labor video, computer and media activists in the US and from around the world to build and develop labor communication technology and media. The first conference was held in 1990 and they have been held throughout the United States as well as Canada and Russia. Labor Media conferences are also held in Seoul. We believe that a critical task for labor is building a labor communication media movement that can tell our stories and break the corporate information blockade in every corner of the world.

The Anti-Union Network

Submitted by intexile on 金曜, 09/15/2006 - 4:35pm.
It's time the truth got out.  Anti-union organizations and for-profit 'unionbusting' consultants have greatly contributed to workers experiencing enormous obstacles when trying to form unions.  The rise of these groups over the last few decades, their multi-million dollar budgets, and their escalating attacks are no coincidence:  it's the result of a decades-long plan from right-wing ideologues bent on dismantling labor organizations responsible for advancing the social and economic interests of America's workers.

Protest.Net: A calendar of protest, meetings, and conferences.

Submitted by intexile on 火曜, 02/07/2006 - 7:15am.
Protest.Net is a collective of activists who are working together to create our own media. By publishing a public record of our political activities on the web we are taking a stand against the established media. We are standing up and showing that serious activism is alive and well at the dawn of the 21st century. Everyday from Kansas to India activists are meeting, organizing, and protesting to demand a better world for all. When the corporate media takes note of our activities it is only to spit upon our struggle. We are accused of being misinformed bleading heart hooligans with nothing better to do than march up and down blocking traffic. Yet the rich get richer, and we are told to be complacent, to wait for our due. They say the environment isn't being destroyed, it's ok to kill millions of Iraqi's with vindictive sanctions, that the billions living in slums just need to work harder, that global domination by a corporate elite is the only way.
