Do You Know About EFCA?

EFCA, the Employee Free Choice Act passed the House, is stalled in the Senate, may not have enough votes for cloture, may not pass. This Act would make organizing much easier. Workers would only need to sign cards. No lengthy certification elections. The first contract would have to be signed within 120 days or arbitration would begin. No more killing the union by stalling. Increased fines for employers who violate labor laws. It is the most pro-labor legislation in years. The Senate is split on party lines, 51-48, 1 not voting against cloture, which would have limited debate and moved the vote forward. The vote needed for cloture is 60, Bush has promised to veto it. (surprise, surprise) Even with Clinton or Obama in office - both have supported it - it may not make it thru the Senate. It would help this along if you make sure your Senator supports this Act. It's about time congress did something for the working class, especially after organized labor has pumped millions into political campaigna over the years.
