Action for World Liberation Everyday

Submitted by intexile on h, 04/03/2006 - 12:40am.
Immigrants contribute 7 billion in social security per year. they earn 240 billion, report 90 billion, and only are reimbursed 5 billion, "where are the 85 billion?"  They also  contribute to the U.S. economy 25 billion more than they receive in healthcare, etc., etc., etc.  According to the anti-immigrant politicians and hatemongers, "immigrants are a drain on society."  If this is true, then during the day on May 1st the stock market will surge, and the economy will boom.  If not, we prove them wrong once and for all.  We know what will happen!

An anarchist celebration of May Day

Submitted by intexile on cs, 02/02/2006 - 6:25am.
In 1887 four Chicago anarchists were executed. A fifth cheated the hangman by killing himself in prison. Three more were to spend 6 years in prison until pardoned by Governor Altgeld who said the trial that convicted them was characterised by "hysteria, packed juries and a biased judge". The state had, in the words of the prosecution put "Anarchy .. on trial" and hoped their deaths would also be the death of the anarchist idea.

The anarchists were trade union organisers and May Day became an international workers day to remember their sacrifice. They were framed on false charges of throwing a bomb at police breaking up a demonstration in Chicago. This was part of a strike demanding an 8 hour day involving 400,000 workers in Chicago that started May 1st 1886 .

Haymarket Affair (American Memory, Library of Congress)

Submitted by intexile on cs, 02/02/2006 - 6:27am.
This collection showcases more than 3,800 images of original manuscripts, broadsides, photographs, prints and artifacts relating to the Haymarket Affair. The violent confrontation between Chicago police and labor protesters in 1886 proved to be a pivotal setback in the struggle for American workers' rights. These materials pertain to: the May 4, 1886 meeting and bombing; to the trial, conviction and subsequent appeals of those accused of inciting the bombing; and to the execution of four of the convicted and the later pardon of the remaining defendants. Of special interest and significance are the two dozen images of three-dimensional artifacts, including contemporary Chicago Police Department paraphernalia, labor banners, and an unexploded bomb casing given to juror J. H. Brayton by Chicago Police Captain Michael Schaack. The cornerstone is the presentation, as images and searchable text, of the transcript of the 3,200 pages of proceedings from the murder trial of State of Illinois v. August Spies, et al.

Wagner Labor Archives, and Martin Lapan, then Executive Director of the Jewish Labor Committee, 850 boxes of the historical records of the JLC were transferred to the Archives. This vast collection, a total of more than three million pages of documentation and ten thousand photographs, posters, and graphics, records the work of the Committee from its founding in 1934 through the early 1980s.
