This group exists to foster the democratic exchange of ideas regarding praxis in organizing a sex industry workplace.
NOTICE:
The Sex Industry is the oldest form of capitalism on earth, and as such it is certainly the most obviously exploitative. For thousands of years, Sex Workers have been maimed, abused, disrespected, and killed by the two capitalists who exchange the commodified labor of the worker, the John and the Pimp/Madame. This is one of the most painful industries to help organize.
Furthermore, the Bosses of this Industry have fewer qualms about violence towards agitation.
As far as I can find, there is no current forum to hold this discussion in. As a new Wobbly, I realize this may be stepping into a big debate, and I accede to previous rulings about this issue by the Webmaster, if there is such precedent. However, if this is just me saying this because I'm saying this, and no one gives a worry about it, then I look forward to some good conversation.
The entire genesis of this comes from a friend, really, his ex is working in the strip club industry, as are many young women due to the economic downturn, and she is very discouraged by the amount of drugs and outright prostitution in the clubs.
As a member of IU 640, I can easily see how a cocktail waitress with no bra on would easily be a member of my IU. But the fact is, the only place a woman belongs is in her union, and that's IU 690! Let's have some real conversations!
