Twin Cities and Duluth IWW -- 1916 Mine Workers Strike Commemoration

On Saturday, June 3 we remember the valiant struggle of over 15,000 fellow workers and through our continued agitating in 2006, carry their fighting spirit forward.  This date marks the 90^th anniversary of the great mine workers strike on Minnesota’s Mesabi, Cuyuna, and Vermillion Iron Ranges – a strike that threatened the economic grip of the U.S. Steel war profiteers and strained relations between several prominent Wobbly organizers and the union’s general headquarters.

Twin Cities and Duluth IWWs will host a public event in Virginia, MN on Saturday, June 3rd.  The program will feature music, historical discussions, and poetry and will be held in Virginia's old Socialist Hall, where the 1916 strike was headquartered.

We gather to remember the Fellow Workers and Wobblies who came before us,  but also to celebrate current labor organizing on Minnesota’s iron ranges.  Anyone interested in attending and/or in need of transportation to Virginia should contact the Twin Cities GMB at (612) 339-4418 or twincities@iww.org.
