ART, ACTIVISM, AND ACADEMICS MERGE IN THIS 1-HR PERFORMANCE!
New College Of California Activism and Social Change MA student, Mary Miller, presents her final thesis performance, "Vicious Cycle," an analysis of the dynamics of power and control within interpersonal relationships as compared to the patterns of systemic oppression inherent in state structures. The story unfolds around two support groups, one for struggling activists and one for survivors of domestic violence, who are forced to share one room and one facilitator due to budget cuts to the community counseling center. Their inter-connectedness reveals itself through themes of power and control, isolation, and healing. The text is drawn from interviews with survivors of state harassment and / or domestic violence.
