Join LC4PJ this weekend at Berkeley Honda (Day 1)

Members and supporters of the Bay Area Labor Committee for Peace and Justice:

Workers at Berkeley Honda have been on strike for nine months. We're sure you can imagine the stress they and their families are under. Because the situation is critical, we have an urgent request.

Members of the community have joined with the strikers in solidarity at Thursday and Saturday rallies, as well as picketing at other times of the week. The firm's business has been cut down, but the family that owns Berkeley Honda are multi-millionaires, and they have not yet felt the need to negotiate in good faith.

These actions of Berkeley Honda are not in isolation. If they can destroy the union at this shop, it will have devastating effects at other facilities. The next two months are crucial. If we do not force the firm to engage in real negotiations and acquire a decent contract by June 15, the union may be decertified. We cannot over-emphasize the importance of pulling out all the stops in April and May in pressuring the company "to do the right thing." Toward this end, we are asking different groups to sponsor a weekend of picketing both the new car facility and the used car lot across the street. The Labor Committee for Peace and Justice has voted to sponsor such a weekend.

Please reply to this message with a time that you could picket for two hours on Saturday, May 6, or Sunday, May 7. The slots are from 11 to 1, 1 to 3, and 3 to 5. If you have someone that you would like to spend a couple of hours with, have them sign up also. Bring your spouse, partner, friend, neighbor - whatever! Do something concrete for labor, and peace [of mind for the strikers and their families], and justice on the weekend of May 6 - 7.

In solidarity, The Berkeley Honda Labor Community Coalition
