Social Work

I am curious if we, as an organization, are intrested in lending the IWW title to some social work. That is, mission trip type stuff. I have done alot of service this way, however Christianity is not my banner. I got into it at the beginning because I ahd construction and cement experience, and now I find myself being asked back more and more. I recently went to Mississippi to help with Katrina stuff, and found myself bothered by the inefficency that was present with the group I was there with. I wonder, I saw alot of people, both volunteers and victims, have their faith in Christianty, revitalized. This is good, for them, but I wonder if it would work for us. I am planning on doing some service trips to some areas in Oregon, lower income regions and doing some work, I do not know what, but I would like to carry the IWW banner with me.

Of course!
Those people who have the lowest incomes are the ones most in need of organization, an also of help in more material ways. We would not only be bringing lower income workers into our union, but also cultivating an image of the IWW where in addition to everything we do at present, members are willing to go out on weekends and help fix up a house, or lay a cement floor, etc.

Just by showing up an explaining who we are we would be potentially attracting new members. However, I would plan to have a good number of pamphlets on hand, and to do some speaking as well.
