Managing Sections of the IWW.ORG Site

If you are part of an IWW Industrial Union Branch (IUB), General Membership Branch (GMB), Regional Organizing Committee (ROC), shop, organizing committee, or project, you may want to set up a subsection of the iww.org websites for your needs.  This is easy to do.  Just follow these steps:

(1) Contact the iww.org web administrator at www@iww.org.  Your message may take time to process (messages from new senders are automatically run through spam filters, so be sure to include "iww.org web request" or something similar in the subject line).

(2) Please indicate what branch, shop, committee, or project requires the new section of the website (that person will need to apply for an iww.org web account--not the same thing as an iww.org email account--with editing permissions.  If you need to set this up, apply here (http://www.iww.org/en/user/register), and ask for editing permissions in a separate message to www@iww.org).

(3) Indicate who will maintain the new sites (Ideally that should be the person making the request.  Include an email address.  Maintaining the sites are easy.  Editing is performed through the web browser itself, as long as you have editing permissions over the page you maintain).

(4) Indicate where you want the new pages to be located (IUBs should be listed on the appropriate Industrial Union pages (http://www.iww.org/en/unions); GMBs and ROCs should be listed on the appropriate Branches pages (http://www.iww.org/en/branches); shops should be listed on both Industrial Union and Branch pages; Projects ideally should be listed on the Projects pages (http://www.iww.org/en/projects)).

(5) Once you are an editor, you may add subsections ("child pages") to your part of the website, and you may also submit "news" ("stories") to the website.  When you add new pages, be sure to uncheck the "in moderation queue" box and check the "published" box.  Be sure to select the appropriate categories for your "story" or "child page" or it won't appear in the proper location.

For the Advanced - Taxonomy Blocks

(6) You may request a "taxonomy block" when you apply to maintain a section of the website, so that all news items pertaining to your branch, committee, or project will appear as dynamic links on your website section (e.g. "iu520" news will appear in the "iu520 taxonomy block" on the iu520 web page (http://www.iww.org/unions/dept500/iu520) using RSS feeds.)  Your taxonomy block RSS feeds can also be syndicated to other web sites.

(7) You may also request that relevant RSS feeds from other websites appear on your subsection's pages (e.g., notice all of the RSS feeds from iu660-related websites on the iu660 page at http://www.iww.org/unions/dept600/iu660)

(8) Taxonomy blocks are generally limited to "stories" (images, links, book pages, child pages, and the like will not appear in the blocks).  To make sure that your "story" appears in the block, be sure to select the appropriate category for your story when you publish it.

Last but not Least:

(9) You are responsible for maintaining your subsection of the website.  Unused sites will be maintained, but to keep your site current and fresh, be proactive in keeping up your subsection of the iww.org websites.
