Japan July 7th-9th - In the lead up to the G8 Summit in Japan from July 7th
through 9th, Japanese authorities have arrested domestic activists and have
detained numerous foreign independent media journalists and anti-G8 protesters.
At least six independent journalists and ten academics have been detained by
Japanese immigration officials in the past weeks, including Andrej Grubacic,
professor of sociology at the University of San Francisco.
Police arrested eight protesters on June 29, as 1,500 people marched against the
G8 Summit in Tokyo's fashionable fashionable Shibuya and Shinjuku districts.
Earlier this month, workers in Kamagasaki clashed with police and security in

We plan to replace the faltering left wing with a political ideology that is
more sound, sensible, and able to combat the dominance of right wing dogma than
previously. ---- What has happened to the left? ---- The traditional left is
dying. UK politics are dominated by three parties who argue only about how
people's hard work should be distributed to the rich. Old style trade unions
often refuse to fight because they rely on state backing to keep their funds and
influence. The communists and socialists are totally discredited, hiding secret
agendas and wanting change only for their own power base.
The left has relied for decades on a partnership with big business, where each

Direct Action for Direct Democracy: Shut Down the Republication National
Convention ---- Monday, September 1, will be a day of civil disobedience and
direct action to shut down the opening of the Republican National Convention
(RNC) in Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Pittsburgh Organizing Group (POG) will join
these actions in opposition to a two-party system incapable of meeting basic
human needs that is bankrupting and decimating our communities through a culture
of war and fear. ---- The RNC Welcoming Committee (RNC-WC), a Minneapolis-Saint
Paul-based group, has been publicly organizing to shut down the RNC through a
three-tiered strategy of blockades. Dividing downtown St. Paul into seven

Organise! and the WSM Belfast branch picketed Starbucks in Belfast city centre
today from 12 to 1 pm. Despite the miserable weather around 12 people joined the
picket and leafleted passers by and potential customers outside the coffee shop.
At the start of the picket 3 people had gone inside to leaflet customers and
staff. There was a very positive response to the picket however one person was
falsely accused of assaulting a Starbuck's member of staff after leafleting
staff and customers inside. ---- As part of the Global Day of Action against
Starbucks called by the AIT/IWA and IWW Organise! and the WSM picketed Starbucks
in Belfast today (5th July) to demand the reinstatement of Monica, a member of

Remember on April 1 when four people who really hate the unspeakable devastation
caused by the mining and burning of coal locked themselves down to one of its
primary funders, a Bank of America branch (for more info, see BAAM #8, page 1)?
They were charged with trespassing, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.
On May 6 the courts threw out our bogus resisting arrest charges and gave us all
a year of pre-trial probation. ---- Our lawyer said this was the best possible
scenario, given the circumstances. Pre-trial probation isn't like `real'
probation and it's going to be less invasive (no ankle bracelet).

Today, the trial in the Lionbridge case of a dismissed trade union member took
place in Warsaw. ---- It was also a day of actions at Lionbridge offices in
Dublin, Copenhagen, Madrid and Warsaw. ---- This marked the end of a week of
actions against Lionbridge, started by actions in Zilina (Slovakia), Paris,
Brussels and Lisboa. ---- During the court session, the company's lawyers were
not able to present even the flimsiest evidence justifing the firing of a trade
union organizer. One of the documents they have presented today, was an
interview with the activist describing the illegal firing and working conditions
in Lionbridge. The interview was made after the union-organizer was fired, but

The Dyke March offers, according to their website, "a non-commercial,
fundamentally grassroots alternative to Boston's Pride Celebration." Started in
Washington DC in 1993 by The Lesbian Avengers, the Dyke March is inclusive of
all "sexualities, genders, races, ages, ethnicities, sizes, economic
backgrounds, and physical abilities," and strives to provide visibility for
queers who do not fit into mainstream Pride's white, cisgendered
(non-transgendered) and monied gay male majority. This year, though The Lesbian
Avengers have long since become inactive, all lost to either normalcy or
travels, there was a small but spirited Anarch@-Queer Liberationist contingent

comícios relâmpago em frente aos estabelecimentos.

On the Tuesday 24th there was a strike against government reform, announced by a
lot of labour unions. According to pre-estimates, almost one million people
joined the strike. There was strike in health service, in railways, transport in
many cities was totally or partly stopped, in many factories and bureaus there
was no work for one hour, taxi drivers in Prague blocked the airport, farmers
blocked the Prague’s artery, and many more... ---- The striking and the
strike-breakers ---- Both trade unionists and unorganised working people joined
the strike. Some people didn’t stop their work, however, they expressed their
solidarity with the demands of the striking at least with posting banners in
