IU 560 - temporary contract assignments

Greetings, fellow workers.

After getting laid off in Portland, OR from a job of 8 years, I have returned to Florida in the middle of a recession.  I've been working temporary contract jobs through tech recruiting agencies (more accurately, I've only found one so far).  I am now a member of the vast reserve army of the unemployed.  This mode of employment is interesting in that one does not even know who his/her colleagues with her/his employer are, since those he/she works with are employed by someone other than her/his employer.

No argument there: You mentioned a "tech recruiting" agency." Is this the same as a "temp" agency?

This wob is wondering about that - thought of "registering" for temp work: They wanted proof of citizenship and a bunch of other personal info.

It would be wild if the IWW could organize all the "temp" workers into OBU, eh?

I guess the first step would be to identify larger agencies which operate nationwide? What do you think?

Hi, all - bostonbill here, proud 560 member and (hopefully) lame duck secretary of the Boston GMB.

I've been working part-time doing web site construction and maintenance with http://prometheuslabor.com/. I'm a dual carder, as I also belong to the OPEIU via Prometheus. Not very active in the local (OPEIU Local 6) which consists mostly of court employees and other public sector workers, not communication folks.

Organizing technical contractors is a pretty tough nut to crack. Best effort so far seems to be the CWA's http://washtech.org/
